Becoming a Volunteer and/or Trustee
with Burngate Stone Carving Centre
Have you considered Volunteering or becoming a Trustee?
Burngate is a small charity that relies on Trustees and Volunteers who can help us achieve our mission to ‘Advance the Education of the art of stone masonry, stone carving, sculpture and the stone working heritage and history of Purbeck.’ It’s also a great way to get involved with the local community and meet new people, learn new skills and be in a creative space with people who are passionate about the area and stone carving.
We’re looking for trustees and volunteers who have both time and skills that they would be happy to share in order to help us take Burngate forward.
We are looking for volunteers and trustees with the time to offer support in the following areas:
- Day to Day
To help with meet and greet, engaging and welcoming visitors to the centre as well as taking money from shop sales, merchandising of the shop and gallery areas and the inevitable dusting and cleaning of the public areas. To help us open 7 days a week. To make teas and coffees for students and visitors as well. - PR expertise
To help us secure articles and media interest in the centre throughout Dorset and beyond. - Social Media Skills
To develop and action an effective social media strategy. - Website
To maintain and develop the website. - Graphic Art
To design leaflets and flyers and other materials. - Funding Bids
To look for funding opportunities and to help devise projects and apply for funding. - Education
To help us tell the story of stone masonry, stone carving, sculpture and the stone working heritage and history through community presentations and talks at Burngate and in the local area. - Events
To help organise and plan and promote an annual diary of Burngate events to attract visitors. - Schools
To help develop projects with local schools. To seek opportunities to incorporate the history of Purbeck stone, stone carving and stonemasonry into education at local schools and finding potential sources of joint funding. - Anything else
We are open to ideas and suggestions.
